Robot playing the violin – Toyota
This is a video of a musically-inclined Partner Robot that can play violin. Behind is Toyota the auto giant.
17 joints in its arms controlled by computer and very agile fingers allow the robot to both hold the violin and correctly psuh down the strings against the fingerboard, while gently drawing the bow across the strings. In this clip you will see it at a Toyota showroom in Tokyo. The robot is the 152-centimeter (5-ft) tall and it entertained with “Pomp and Circumstance.”
Toyota has an ensemble of musical androids like this, which can also play trumpet, tuba, trombone, French horn and percussion.
Robot humanoids first kiss
This kiss happened on 27 December 2008, during a robotic performance of scenes of Phantom of the Opera at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech).
The team at Taiwan Tech spent three years developing the autonomous robots hand-eye coordination, intrinsic self-balancing mechanisms, and other technologies. Most of the movements during a scene are programmed into the robot ahead of time.
